Monica J. Casper, Ph.D. is (incoming) Dean, College of Arts and Letters, and Professor of Sociology at San Diego State University. She is also Professor Emeritus of Gender and Women's Studies and co-founder of the Consortium on Gender-Based Violence at the University of Arizona.

She has published several books, including the award-winning The Making of the Unborn Patient: A Social Anatomy of Fetal Surgery; The Body: Social and Cultural Dissections; and Critical Trauma Studies: Understanding Violence, Conflict, and Memory in Everyday Life. Her newest book manuscript, Babylost, examines infant mortality and racism in the United States.

She is founding co-editor of the successful NYU Press book series “Biopolitics: Medicine, Technoscience, and Health in the 21st Century” and founding co-editor of the newly launched UA Press Book Series, “The Feminist Wire Books: Connecting Feminisms, Race, and Social Justice,” as well as a managing editor of The Feminist Wire and publisher of TRIVIA: Voices of Feminism. Her interest in comics is longstanding, including teaching a course on gender, race, and superheroes.
